SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

Approximately one million Californians currently lack health insurance, prompting a concerted effort to extend coverage through Covered California.

Covered California, the health exchange facilitating subsidized coverage in alignment with the Affordable Care Act of 2010, commonly known as Obamacare, is leading the charge.

Since the inception of Covered California, the percentage of uninsured Californians has plummeted from 17% to 6%.

Despite this progress, a significant portion of the population remains unaware of the potential benefits of obtaining coverage.

Jessica Altman, the executive director of Covered California, highlights a prevailing misconception: “Many individuals mistakenly believe they earn too much or cannot afford it, only to discover that this is not the case.”

Several insurance plans cater to diverse needs:

  • Bronze 60 Plan: Suited for healthy individuals or families without prevalent medical conditions
  • Silver 70 Plan: Ideal for those seeking an affordable, middle-of-the-road plan while maintaining good health
  • Gold Plan: Tailored for healthy individuals or families with frequent medical service utilization

– Platinum Plan: Designed for those with regular medical service requirements among healthy individuals or families.
